Launched by Woman Who Grew Up Homeless, West Chester-Based Jewelry Biz Now Getting Plugged by Oprah
Valencia Key, a jewelry business based in West Chester, has grown from its early, word-of-mouth days into a brand worn by powerful women across the country, like Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, writes Lisa Dukart for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The jewelry brand was launched in 2015 by Lia Valencia Key. She was inspired by her late mother, who gave her a pair of earrings and told her, “Always wear your earrings when you can’t find your light.”
Key, who grew up in homeless shelters, wanted to share the same message with others.
“The jewelry is the byproduct of the message,” said Key. “The message is, ‘If I can, you can.’”
Since its inception, her jewelry has been selling on QVC, where it has become quite a hit, and has also garnered a nod from the editors of O, The Oprah Magazine.
As her business continues to grow, Key keeps adding new products. In the spring, she plans to launch a line of beaded bags handcrafted in Ghana.
She donates a part of her earnings to educating women and children at homeless shelters and schools.
