Chester County OIC Awarded an Additional $33,542 to Assist Adult Learners in 2021-22

The Chester County OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) was awarded a one-time grant of $33,542 in federal funds by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Adult Education.

Currently funded by the Bureau, the Chester County OIC received these additional funds to enhance capacity to effectively assess adult learners in the Adult Basic Education Program. This program, offered throughout Chester County, provides day and evening classes in English Language Acquisition, General Educational Development (GED) Prep, and Adult Basic Literacy.

The Chester County OIC, headquartered in Coatesville, creates opportunities for individuals to prepare for sustainable employment and financial independence through education, training, and support services. Serving approximately 600 adults annually, the nonprofit was incorporated in 1979 and moved its headquarters to Coatesville in 2018.

In addition to literacy programs the Chester County OIC provides workforce training programs such as Certified Nurse Aide, ServeSafe, Forklift, Customer Service, Flagger, and more.
