A new career may be calling.

You can have a good job in just three months, courtesy of the Chester County OIC’s Nurse Aide Training Program. The 12-week course is offered approximately three times a year for those who wish to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs).

The next course begins in January.

CNAs make an average of $20 per hour in Pennsylvania. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of nurse aides, orderlies, and attendants is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations.

Some of the topics covered in the 128-hour training include: the role and function of a nurse aide, nursing theory, infection control, vital signs, personal hygiene, nutrition, resident rights, restorative care, and psychosocial needs. The course also includes additional hours of literacy and work readiness skills training, and upon completion, students are prepared to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Exam.

The Chester County OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) is a Coatesville-based nonprofit that serves the community through programs specifically designed to meet the job-training and employment needs of low-income or disadvantaged individuals.
