Oxford High School graduate Rose Rowe is one of four winners in the Penn State University Libraries Short Stories contest called “Through the Woods,” according to a report from the university.
The writing contest encouraged students, faculty, and staff across five Penn State campuses to submit their best woodland-themed short stories or poetry.
“Every contest is different, and I never know what to expect,” said Ashton Zillhardt, managing editor of the contest’s editorial board. “The ‘Through the Woods’ contest took my highest expectations and surpassed them.”
Rowe, a Nottingham resident, received a $100 Visa gift card, and her story, “A Small Request from the Forest,” will be added to the university libraries’ short-story dispensers.
Rowe is currently studying environmental resource management and plant sciences as a first-year student at Penn State World Campus, the university’s online campus.
Cochranville native Benjamin Stapleton, a senior studying mathematics and electrical engineering at the University Park campus, earned honorable mention with his story, “Forests of Grief.”
