Bottles of rare bourbons will go to some lucky Pennsylvania winner.

Pennsylvania bourbon aficionados will find out sometime this week if they get to take home rare bourbons that include Pappy Van Winkle. The giveaway is part of Pennsylvania’s annual limited-release lottery. Michael Potter let the story breathe for NBC10 Philadelphia.

Last Monday, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) opened its lottery to distribute the state’s allotment of the coveted Van Winkle bourbons, such as the sought-after Pappy Van Winkle 23. A total of 1,208 bottles of this rare Kentucky whiskey are in play and will be awarded through five separate drawings. Each winner — be they resident or licensed spirits retailer — will be given an opportunity to buy a single bottle.

Pennsylvania residents and PLCB licensees were given a chance to enter one, several, or all of the five drawings. And since there is a one-bottle limit, every winner will automatically be removed from any remaining drawings.

Those interested in buying the rare bourbon had until Friday to submit their entries. Now that the entry period has ended, the lucky winners will be drawn sometime this week.
