As part of its Bake the World a Better Place event before Thanksgiving, The Alliance for Health Equity (AHE) distributed 600 free pies as a gesture of thanks for the community’s continued support in the advancement of Greater Coatesville’s health, equity, and resilience.

Hundreds of individuals and families came out to receive two freshly baked apple, pumpkin, or sweet potato pies. On top of free pies, grocery gift cards donated from ACME of Thorndale, Giant of Downingtown, and Wegmans of Downingtown were given randomly to individuals who had pies with a golden ticket.

Pies were also distributed to the W.C. Atkinson Memorial Services Center, the Coatesville Youth Initiative, the Community Youth and Women’s Alliance, the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, the Parkesburg Point Youth Center, Safe Harbor of Chester County, and Valley Youth House for Coatesville.

The AHE thanked Two Fish and Five Loaves, as well as Brown’s Super Stores, for their expertise in baking.

Two Fish and Five Loaves is a nonprofit that creates opportunities for cooking experience and employment to individuals in the Greater Coatesville area. CEO Lisa Morris perfected a sweet potato pie recipe for the whole community to enjoy. More than 400 pounds of sweet potatoes were involved in making the pies.

The AHE partnered with Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. for the event. Check out the latter’s website or text CLIFFS to 97211 to see current employment opportunities in the Coatesville area.

“Our new brand and identity creates a new pathway for The AHE to carry out our mission, guiding principles, and values — with intentionality to ensure we partner and always give back to the community,” said CEO Vanessa B. Briggs. “We are excited to guide The AHE under the board’s leadership and community partners as we co-create transformative community investments and initiatives that get at the root cause of generational poverty, health disparities, and inequities.”
