Jennersville Hospital employees who were handed their official layoff notice earlier this month got a recent ray of professional hope. They were informed of priority consideration at Penn Medicine for available positions they are qualified for, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The 293 workers will be displaced from their current jobs once West Grove hospital closes its doors at the end of the year. The closure was announced by Tower Health, the hospital’s owner, in September.

Without Jennersville Hospital, southern Chester County residents will be left with just Penn Medicine and ChristianaCare.

The decision to close Jennersville Hospital was a financial one, as Tower Health — which also owns Brandywine and Phoenixville hospitals — lost close to $80 million in the January through March period alone. Even so, the quarter was an improvement over the previous one, in which the health system lost $111 million.

That brief rally was, however, not enough to save the 63-bed local hospital, which accounted for $6.8 million of the overall loss for fiscal 2021, ending on June 30.

Tower Health officials are still deciding on the future of Brandywine Hospital in Caln Township.
