Not all Chester County residents are thrilled with the prospect of sports betting at Chickie's & Pete's.

When it opens its doors in Malvern next month, the new Chickie’s & Pete’s will have something extra to offer guests: sports and horse-race betting, Andrew Maykuth covered the announcement for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has okayed the proposal by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment — the parent company of Parx Casino — to open its shuttered betting operation in a section of the new Chickie’s & Pete’s. The restaurant is opening in the Grove Shopping Center.

The casino/restaurant chain partnership is intended to revive the “outdated” off-track betting business model, said Parx officials.

The Parx Race and Sportsbook will be Chester County’s first licensed gaming outlet. Parx shut down its previous betting outlet in Valley Forge in June 2020 amid coronavirus restrictions.

The new operation will be relatively small. The 630-square-foot space will include four automated kiosks for placing wagers, along with four windows for those who prefer to place their bets with the teller. No seating will be available. The only way to enter the betting room will be from the restaurant.
