New Plaza to Welcome Students to WCU, Visitors to the Borough

Roger and Agnes Ware Plaza at West Chester University.

A major West Chester University and borough gateway will soon become home to Roger and Agnes Ware Plaza, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The plaza and fountain, made possible by a donation of WCU alumni Agnes and Roger Ware, are under construction. It will sit on the northwest corner of High Street and Rosedale Avenue, replacing a stone sign that had been there for decades.

“The focal point of the plaza is a fountain which will redefine the entrance to the campus by providing a welcoming place and an iconic feature for the future of WCU,” said the university.

The plaza will be part of the President’s Walk. The fountain will consist of two large concentric spray rings with arching, multistream jets. Four vertical multistream jets will be fed from a smaller third ring at the fountain’s center. The design also incorporates underwater light fixtures, lighting the water feature at night.

“West Chester University is deeply grateful to Agnes and Roger Ware, ’82, for their kindness in transforming West Chester University’s entrance,” said WCU President Chris Fiorentino.
