Kennett Square, renowned beyond Chester County as the Mushroom Capital of the World, is one of the four finest and liveliest suburbs in the Philadelphia area. The standing is particularly notable to potential residents, writes Amanda Silberling for Apartment Therapy.
The town, with its median home price of $449,663 and an average monthly rent of $1,350, has something to offer for everybody.
On the first weekend following Labor Day, it hosts a Mushroom Festival. During this event, there is plenty to see — and taste. More than 65 percent of the nation’s mushrooms grow in this part of Chester County.
Kennett Square has 6,100 residents who live within one square mile. This makes it cozily well-populated, while at the same time being only an hour away from the busy center of Philadelphia.
The suburb is also known for the botanical paradise Longwood Gardens, which attracts around 1.5 million visitors on average each year. Longwood Gardens has ascended to become one of the most-visited public gardens in America.
