Habitat for Humanity of Chester County will welcome three families into their new homes in the Cambria Terrace development in Coatesville on Saturday, July 17.

It’s another exciting moment in HfHCC’s proud history, which dates back to 1989, that would not be possible without scores of volunteers and donors, who play key roles in helping the nonprofit build simple, decent, affordable homes for low-income families.

The pandemic complicated all of our lives throughout the last year and a half. Nonetheless, HfHCC volunteers were still onsite – in masks and socially distanced – doing all they could to help these families realize their dream of homeownership.

Generous companies like PJM Interconnection, WSFS, Bank of America, Thrivent Financial, DuPont, and Wells Fargo have been instrumental in funding the construction of the more than 150 homes that HfHCC has built throughout the years.

“We would not be able to move a brick without the generosity of the volunteers and donors in this community,” said Chris Wiseman, HfHCC’s Executive Director. “Their dedication and belief in what we do is the main reason we are able to help families build strong foundations for themselves and their children.”

As the three families settle into their new homes, The GIANT Company has donated $3,500 to each of them to help purchase groceries. GIANT is also offering them free delivery for a year when they purchase their groceries through GIANT Direct and supplying each of them with bags of groceries and pantry staples during the ceremony.

Construction continues in Cambria Terrace, with only a few homes left to build before the community is complete. HfHCC is accepting applications for these remaining homes, as well as for the Fuller Meadows development in West Grove. The applications can be found online, along with video tutorials that walk applicants through each step of the process.

HfHCC serves those who are not able to afford a mortgage by conventional means. Each home is sold to a low-income family – without respect to race, gender, culture, or familial status – using a no-interest, 30-year mortgage for the full purchase price of the home.
