Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino in Chester plans to remove 563 slot machines from its gaming floor, writes Gary Rotstein for PennBets.com.

It’s already received permission from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

It’s an unusual request, but Harrah’s is confident it can remove the machines without loss of revenue.

The number of slots will drop at the Delaware County racetrack-casino to 1,700.

Chris Albrecht, senior vice president and general manager of the racino, said even during Harrah’s busiest weekends, there will still be plenty of machines.

“The new layout will provide a more comfortable gaming environment for our guests, and we do not anticipate any revenue loss from this reduction,” states a presentation on Harrah’s new layout. 

There’s been a “significant oversupply and underutilization of our existing slot machines.”

Slot machines are still the primary earner for the industry, despite online gaming. It generates about $2.4 billion in annual revenue.

Harrah’s noted that its slot revenue has been declining over the years no matter how many machines it has. That’s due to the larger number of competitors.

Harrah’s will take out the least-used slot machines that are a decade old.
