In addition to the breed competitions, the National Dog Show also features canine agility.

Pent-up demand for tickets to the 2021 National Dog Show is expected to cause a run of early ticket sales.

Fans of the show who want to ensure their place onsite for the annual convention of classy canines are advised to act now.

The current weather may be all summer, shore, and hot dogs, but in terms of planning for the nation’s most entertaining sports competition on four legs, it’s time to think Thanksgiving.

The show is scheduled for November 20-21, again at the spacious and conveniently located Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks. As usual, more than 100 breeds of dog will compete for Best in Show honors. In addition, as one of the few “benched” shows left in the U.S. the canines will be onsite throughout the competition, visitable (and pettable) by attendees

Vendors, food, demonstrations, and a few celebrities will also be on hand.

Last year’s edition, severely curtailed by COVID-19 restrictions, was still held. Claire, a Scottish Deerhound, took Best in Show, but her victory was minus the anticipation and excitement of the judges’ final evaluation that crowned her top dog.

The 2021 show brings all that back to Oaks.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming people back to the Expo Center to join us for this wonderful tradition,” said Wayne Ferguson, president of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia (KCP). “With the year we’ve had, The National Dog Show will be a great reminder of how much joy and love dogs bring to the homes of people everywhere.”

Since the National Dog Show started in the 1800s, it has become one of the most prestigious shows in America by setting the bar higher and higher every year since.

Tickets are available on Ticketleap. They are priced at $16 for adults, $7 for children from 4-11 years old, and free for children three and under.

A two-year study conducted by Temple University’s Sport Industry Research Center, commissioned by the KCP, found the average stay for a family at the National Dog Show is three and a half hours. This, coupled with the affordable ticket prices and free parking, make the show one of the best entertainment values in the region.

“We are a non-profit organization, and the show’s main purpose is to educate the public about dogs; so, we take our admission prices very seriously,” said Ferguson.

“Our top priority is to keep this experience family-friendly for everyone, regardless of their circumstance. We let the audience interact with the dogs, so that they may find what canine is best suited for their household.

“That’s what makes us unique,” he concluded.

Pre-pandemic, the ticket sales increased five of the last six years. Expectations are high for an especially big turnout this year.

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia is prepared to host the best dog show yet, one in which spectators get a full experience in a fun and safe way.

The National Dog Show will be broadcast on NBC immediately following the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Hosts John O’Hurley and Kennel Club of Philadelphia expert David Frei will be back in the announcers’ chairs.

The total audience, including both in-person and on television, exceeds 20 million people each year. In 2016, the show received the highest-ever Neilsen rating of 5.9, above average viewership for sporting/entertainment events.
