Jill Apfelbaum, the owner of Malvern Saddlery, has been dressing the region in fashionable equestrian gear for nearly three decades, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Today.

Apfelbaum is a fashion insider and an avid rider. She specializes in boots, britches, and show coats for both competition and everyday wear.

Prior to opening her shop, she was working as director of personal shopping services for Bloomingdale’s.

“When I opened Malvern Saddlery, I was at a point in my career where the corporate structure wasn’t something I wanted to continue with,” she said. “I saw a void in the market for a high-end equestrian boutique that incorporated all the necessities of the sport with a lifestyle point of view.”

Apfelbaum is safety conscious. One of the things she is most proud of is the store’s expertise in properly fitting helmets. But her mission to keep riders from injury extends beyond the headgear.

“We work with Horse Pilot, a company from France, to fit riders with a very minimalistic but essential ‘airbag’ safety vest to be worn anytime they mount a horse to ride, regardless of the discipline, to help ensure a safe experience,” she said.
