After a hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine will host three Healthy Kids Day events on Saturday, April 24 from 10 AM-1 PM.

All are invited to attend. Masks are required, and COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed to create the safest experience possible.

Healthy Kids Day, the YMCA’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, reminds every one of the importance of staying active. One in three children in the U.S. is obese, and when summertime hits, kids are often more idle. Research shows that, without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast.

Designed to inspire more families and kids to keep their minds and bodies active all summer long, the events feature fun and engaging activities:

  • Brandywine YMCA in Coatesville: Hosted by the Brandywine and Lionville Community YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will include Zumba and yoga classes and demonstrations, craft-making activities, Safety Around Water lessons (bring a bathing suit; advanced registration required; call 610-380-9622), and healthy snacks.
  • Jennersville YMCA in West Grove: Hosted by the Kennett Area and Jennersville YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will include soccer matches, Zumba and yoga classes, fun fitness contests, Moon Bounce inflatables, and more. MomPops will be giving away delicious, healthy popsicles, and there will be free Herr’s snacks, too.
  • Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn: Hosted by the West Chester Area and Upper Main Line YMCAs, Healthy Kids Day activities will also celebrate Earth Day! Join the YMCA on its 54-acre campus for visits to its Nature Center and Barnyard (think goats, sheep, turtles, snakes, birds, raptors, and more), hikes through the Cassatt Preserve, a seed planting station, inflatable obstacle course, hula-hooping, family Zumba, dance performances, scavenger hunts, tours of the YMCA’s summer camp site, and more. Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate for those who are in need.
