West Chester Friends School Earth Day

West Chester Friends School students recently decorated sidewalks along High Street with colorful drawings to recognize Earth Day as part of the “Chalk the Walk” celebration, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

“We only have one Earth; there is no planet B,” read one of the etchings.

The celebration was attended by mayoral candidate Kyle Hudson and former mayor and State Rep. Dianne Herrin.

“If anyone understands the critical importance of sustaining a healthy environment, it’s our children,” said Herrin. “Today, students from the West Chester Friends School reminded us that their voices matter, and we must listen to and act on their vision because we are the stewards of their future.”

West Chester Friends School students are actively involved in protecting the environment year-round, said Head of School Brian Fahey.

They pick up trash in local parks and neighborhoods, as well as plant flowers and vegetables.

“They get so excited when they get to be involved in the community,” said Fahey. “And their level of understanding increases every year, so they can be good stewards of the Earth.”
