Due to increased demand, West Chester Friends School is opening a second class of The Friends Play School on Quaker Hill for children who are turning three years old.

Families have a variety of options to choose from – morning-only or full-day schedules on two, three, four, or five days a week.

At The Friends Play School, WCFS’s youngest students participate in a joyful day of fun and learning and enjoy experiences enriched by art, literature, and play and rooted in the Quaker values of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship (SPICES).

As they develop friendships and become a part of their school community, young children learn to solve problems and develop strategies for understanding their world. Creative play and guided learning support their social and emotional growth. Loving, experienced teachers model and encourage children to recognize emotions, express their feelings and needs verbally, and be respectful of friends. Group play is designed to ensure that all children “shine their light.”

The Play School preschoolers enjoy the resources and offerings of WCFS’s elementary school campus, including studio art, music, Spanish, yoga, gardening and outdoor play, library and story time, and “field trips” around campus. On weekly trips to the beautiful “treetop” library, students experience the best of American and British children’s literature. Their interactions with both text and illustration initiate their journey toward a deep love of reading.

WCFS believes that all children are naturally curious and creative. The Play School day is enriched with opportunities for drawing, painting and sculpting, age-appropriate science exploration and invention, and learning about both American song heritage and international musical cultures through instruments, dancing, and song.
