When Willistown Township’s famous filmmaker, M. Night Shyamalan, first sought an ideal location for his hit show, Servant, a family whose home caught the production’s eye had an unusual request, writes Gina Tomaine for Philadelphia magazine.

Jay and Stacey Storm said they would allow the crew to shoot in their home on one condition: They wanted the location fee donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Jay is head of neurosurgery there. He recently established the Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3B) to advance pediatric brain tumor research.

“We didn’t need the money for ourselves,” said Stacey. “But it seemed like an opportunity for the center that could be really special.”

The show was happy to comply with the request. The production has since donated the roughly $100,000 fee, plus an additional three-year donation to the center.

“Jay and Stacey have been advocates of our show since the beginning,” said Shyamalan. “Showing them the same support by contributing to the D3B was an easy decision for me.”
