Chester County is lagging behind both the state and national averages in its share of fully vaccinated residents, write Dan Keating, Naema Ahmed, Harry Stevens, Jessica Wolfrom and Monica Ulmanu for The Washington Post.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that, so far, Chester County has fully vaccinated 14.6 percent of its entire population. This is below the state average of 14.8 percent and the national average of 14.7 percent.

Compared with neighboring counties, Chester County is behind Delaware County’s 15.1 percent and ahead of Montgomery County’s 13.8 percent.

In the category of adults 18 or older, 18.7 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated. This is in line with the state average and just slightly below the national average of 18.8 percent. It is also above Montgomery County’s 17.5 percent but below Delaware County’s 19.3 percent.

The local gap, however, is much more pronounced for residents age 65 and older, where the county fully vaccinated 37.5 percent of people compared with the state’s 36.8 percent and the nation’s 45.9 percent. Meanwhile, Montgomery and Delaware counties are both under the Chester County average at 32.8 and 36.5 percent, respectively.
