Preliminary plans calling for the installation of an electronic billboard along Route 202 in West Whiteland were presented to the township’s application and planning commission last week, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

A pair of LED billboards would be constructed nearly back-to-back at the Glenloch Corporate Center site that is owned by Univest National Bank and Trust and home to a three-story Univest building.

The public discussion held by the application and planning commission was the first step in the approval process. Planners have to consider the proposal at least one more time before the final decision is made by the board of supervisors.

During last week’s meeting, the planning commission heard a presentation of the plan from John Snyder of Catalyst Outdoor Advertising.

However, planners have expressed their concern over the impact the billboards could have on the environment.

Meanwhile, resident Lynn Deithorn, who lives in East Whiteland Township within the view of the location proposed for the billboards, said that the addition of any new electronic billboards would be a major intrusion and would likely hurt property values.
