Retired Congressman Curt Weldon, who served the 7th District successfully for 20 years, donated his entire congressional collection to West Chester University at a special presentation on Monday night at the institutions Philips Memorial Building.

The potential impact of this historic collection, which will take at least two years to catalogue and organize, has already has raised some eyebrows as it contains over 450 cases of original, unsanitzed documents that follow the former Congressman’s life and career. During his two decades of public service, Weldon served on several sensitive committees including his position as vice-chairman of the Defense Committee and the Homeland Security Committee.

“Throughout his career, Congressman Weldon has assembled a collection of papers and other materials that document his service to our nation,” said Greg Weisenstein, WCU’s President. “This collection tells a unique story about the workings of international relations as well as an inside view into domestic politics.“ The documents will allow ”unprecedented access to these materials by scholars, students, the press and the general public.”

Some of the more controversial items already known to exist in the collection include Weldon’s book titled ‘Countdown to Terror’ which focuses on how the CIA ignores top secret information that could prevent another terrorist attack as well as an unpublished book on how the U.S. pushed Russian President Vladimir Putin almost to the brink of another Cold War.

According to Weldon this second book was never published as ”my authors told me if you publish it, they will come after you in every way possible, but that book will be in the archives, unaltered.“

Within the collection there is also thought to be details on another Congressional investigation on Bin Laden that Weldon oversaw, but for now, no one apart from Weldon knows exactly what the details of that contain. Weldon did however indicate that it may well be the most controversial item in the entire collection.
