2021 VISTA Millennial Superstars: Nic Legere

By

Nic Legere, who was born in Oklahoma and moved to Hockessin, Del., when he was seven years old, is the Executive Director of Safety and Risk Management at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.

Legere, who began volunteering at the Kennett YMCA at age 14 and became employed there a year later as a lifeguard and swim instructor, earned a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management from York College. He credits his friend and first supervisor at the YMCA, Lolly Hallman, as having the biggest impact on his career.

“Lolly mentored me and provided a lot of my initial career development,” said Legere. “She is a huge reason why I am where I am today.”

His proudest professional achievement was developing a free water safety program for all second-graders in southern Chester County.

“Each year, this program is provided to more than 1,100 students,” Legere said. “We will never know how many lives this program will save but knowing it has saved lives makes me proud.”

Legere’s favorite Chester County restaurant is the Country Butcher in Kennett Square.

“I can be found walking there from the YMCA for lunch most days,” he said. “They have the best turkey club!”
