Tuesday with Michael: The Danger of Skipping Annual Planning

By

Imagine you are in a large maze trying to find the exit. You move forward, confident you are headed in the right direction and then you run into a dead end.

You walk for almost an hour and still there is no exit in sight.

You start to feel discouraged and wonder if you will ever get out of this maze! Then, you run into someone who hands you a map and shows you where you are right now.

You realize you are very close to the exit but had been going in circles without the map.

Running a business sometimes feels like being caught in a maze. Even if you’re trying to be goal directed, it can be easy to get distracted by day-to-day tasks that don’t do much to bring us any closer to your goals.

If you use ResultsBI’s Strategy Execution Compass , you will have a map to help you navigate through the maze. This online planning tool has a 15-section strategic plan, meetings interface, automatically tracks Key Performance Indicators and keeps endless records.

The Meetings Interface allows you to hold meetings in the application and track progress toward success. This is a great addition to any zoom meeting and helps business leaders and their teams to focus on the right things during meeting times and eliminate time-waste.

I recommend holding brief team project planning meetings at least weekly. You should also meet quarterly and annually to discuss strategic position, direction and goals.

In the midst of the pandemic, you may be tempted to skip the annual planning meeting but this would be a big mistake. Annual planning meetings set the stage for the coming year.

It is a time to review the past year, celebrate successes and award high performers in your organization. It is also a time to look at what didn’t work and create an action plan for improving.

You don’t have to meet in person for your annual meeting. There are many ways you can engage your teams in virtual meetings – We’ll save those for another post. Be creative and have fun!

If you are serious about being successful in your business in 2021, join me and Marc Daniels, CEO of ResultsBI in the upcoming Fast Track Challenge beginning January 11th. Registration is only $97 and includes a 60-DAY Free Trial of the Results BI Strategy Execution Compass (valued at $159). You can have your team members join you for no additional cost.
