Despite the pandemic, the Philadelphia region is seeing a number of new restaurant openings, including Bloom Southern Kitchen, the latest arrival in Chester Springs, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The restaurant is the result of a partnership between chef Michael Falcone, who created a name for himself with Funky Lil’ Kitchen in Pottstown years ago, and David Backhus, owner of Morgantown Coffee in Elverson. The pair also joined forces last year to open Oori, a Korean-ish BYOB in South Coventry Township.

This time, they have decided to give a modern-farmhouse polish to the historic Eagle Tavern, the basement of which is home to catacombs that were used during the Underground Railroad and – according to some – are haunted.

For his menu, Falcone has decided to go Southern. The fried green tomatoes are made with pickled tomatoes, while the hush puppies come with crab and mushrooms. The drinks also have a Southern flair.

Currently, the restaurant is offering only indoor dining and takeout. It is open for lunch and dinner on weekdays, as well as brunch and dinner on weekends.
