At This East Marlborough Restaurant, a Robot Waitress Brings Your Order
While the restaurant industry is still facing a long-running staff shortage, GuGu Asian Table in East Marlborough has dealt with the problem by “hiring” robot Bella as a waitress, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News.
Tony and Suki Liu pride themselves on delivering quality food, something that is more important to them than profits.
“Making the money is not the top priority, serving the customer is the top priority,” said Suki.
To further this goal, the couple introduced Bella to their patrons just before Christmas last year. The robot can fill the role of several human servers. It brings both hot and cold dishes to tables without the need for supervision and can even entertain patrons with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” songs.
BellaBots, which are designed by Pudu, sell for a starting price of $15,000.
However, the investment has paid off for the couple who also own Lily Asian Cuisine in Kennett Square. In addition to being a great server, Bella is always the center of attention as children enjoy the thrill of watching the machine deliver their meals.
