Henderson Grad Wins 50-Mile Ultramarathon in Mountains of Central Pennsylvania
Henderson High School graduate Brock Butler recently won the Tussey Mountainback 50-Mile Ultramarathon in central Pennsylvania, according to a report from StateCollege.com.
The race took place on mostly unpaved roads (82 percent dirt and 18 percent paved) in Rothrock State Forest, the terrain of which included uphill, level, and downhill grades.
The 43-year-old Butler, a Chester Springs resident who ran cross-country at Villanova, was ready for the challenge, having clocked a 2:25 in last year’s Berlin Marathon.
“With competitors broken up in waves, it was impossible to know where I was at relative to everyone else,” said Butler. “So, I set out to hold a steady effort that would put me somewhere in the low six-hour range.”
The tactic proved successful, as Butler won with a time of 6:24:45.
“I love the course,” he said. “Running through the beautiful forests, over the hills, and into the valleys was a great way to spend the day.”
Spring City resident Joshua Finger placed sixth in the race.
