Timothy Shea, a veteran and quality-control technician at Exton-based DSM Biomedical, is raising money for Blue H.E.L.P., the nonprofit that helps reduce the stigma around mental health issues for law enforcement officers and brings awareness to suicide, writes Steven Henshaw for the Reading Eagle.
After returning from a Marine Corps deployment to Iraq, Shea himself had to overcome the belief that it was a sign of weakness to seek help for mental difficulties from the stress and trauma he experienced. After the treatment, his entire perspective on mental health changed.
So, to help others make the same often-lifesaving decision to seek help for mental health issues, Shea donned his running shoes last Friday and started a challenge to run four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
“I am doing this with honor of the law enforcement officers we have lost to suicide,” he wrote on his fundraiser Facebook page. “I ask all of you to stand with me on this journey.”
