Exton Native Takes Reins of Immaculata’s Women’s Lacrosse Program
Immaculata University has named Exton native and Downingtown East High School graduate Nicole Barretta as head coach of its women’s lacrosse program.
Barretta spent last season as an assistant coach at Stockton University in Galloway, N.J. As a player, she starred at Temple and perennial power Stony Brook.
“I would like to thank Athletic Director Paul Murphy and the Immaculata Athletic Department for its belief in me during the selection process,” said Barretta. “The Athletic Department’s drive and passion for success was something that really drew me to the school. I cannot wait to hit the ground running this fall.”
During her playing career at Temple, Barretta registered 56 goals and 17 assists in 46 games. As a junior, she contributed 21 goals and six assists.
At Stony Brook, Barretta appeared in 17 games, making six starts, and scored 26 goals to help lead the Seawolves to their seventh consecutive America East Conference championship. She scored the game-winner in overtime against James Madison in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
“We are extremely excited to have Nicole join the department as the newest member of our athletics family,” said Murphy. “Her playing experience and access to strong coaching mentors should serve our student-athletes well.”
Barretta earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Temple and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook.
