Downingtown native Massimo Biscardi booted a 40-yard field goal with four seconds left to propel Coastal Carolina to a 30-27 victory over No. 21 Louisiana last Wednesday night and give the Chanticleers their first-ever win against a nationally ranked Football Bowl Subdivision program.

As a result, Coastal Carolina, at 4-0, checked into this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll and Associated Press Top 25 at Nos. 24 and 25, respectively. It marks the first time the Chanticleers have been ranked in either poll since they jumped from the Football Championship Subdivision to the FBS in 2017.

“I kind of blacked out,” Biscardi said, when asked what his mindset was before the kick. “I didn’t even think.”

A graduate of Downingtown West High School, Biscardi, a junior, has connected on 31 of 39 field-goal attempts in his college career. His longest is 53 yards.

“I’ve always trusted my preparation,” said Biscardi, who was selected as second-team All-Sun Belt Conference in the preseason. “I have great teammates who always support me and believe in me. Their confidence in me boosts mine even more.”
