Downingtown Native the First True Freshman to Start at Quarterback for Kansas State Since 2006
On Saturday, Downingtown West High School graduate Will Howard became the first true freshman at Kansas State to start at quarterback since 2006, and he led the visiting Wildcats to a 21-14 victory over TCU, writes Drew Davison for The Kansas City Star.
“We got the win,” said Howard. “That’s always what matters to me. I’m happy as heck that we got the win, but there’s a lot to clean up. You all know that, we all know that. It was far from perfect, but like I said, we got it done.”
Howard completed eight of 19 passes for 117 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 86 yards and a touchdown.
The Downingtown native started in place of senior Skylar Thompson, who was unable to play due to an injury. As the Wildcats await his recovery, they now know that they can get the job done with Howard, who was ecstatic that his debut as a starter ended in victory.
“It’s a lot better to learn from a win than to learn from a loss,” he said.
