Success TMS, a Florida-based provider of mental health care that uses technology made by Malvern’s Neuronetics to treat depression, is continuing its Philadelphia market expansion, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company originally planned to pause the opening of its new locations due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that decision was later reversed due to the increased demand for its services during the outbreak.

“COVID has almost been a blessing because it has allowed people to talk about mental health,” said Jonathan Michel, the founding partner of Success TMS.

The 32-center company recently added five new locations in the Philadelphia area, including one in Phoenixville, as well as in nearby Pottstown and Willow Grove.

The company has found success thanks to the NeuroStar TMS system developed by Neuronetics. Approved 12 years ago by the FDA, the technology administers MRI-strength pulses to activate neurons in areas of the brain that are inactive for patients with depression. It also activates deep brain structures that are part of mood regulation.

In clinical studies, NeuroStar has proven to be twice as effective as medication in treating depression.
