Family Lives On to Host Annual Traditions Ball on Nov. 14 to Support Children Grieving Death of a Parent

Family Lives On invites you to “don your denim with a diamond flair” and dedicate yourself to supporting children who are grieving the death of a parent.

To help honor the past, celebrate the present, and build for the future, the Exton-based nonprofit will host its annual Traditions Ball on Saturday, Nov. 14 at The Desmond in Malvern. The theme of this year’s event is “Denim, Diamonds, and Dedication.”

The Traditions Ball will include cocktails, dinner, music, and a silent auction and will raise funds that are critical to continuing the organization’s signature program.

The Family Lives On Traditions Program brings comfort to grieving children and families by helping them continue cherished family traditions. Celebrating a unique experience that the child had with a deceased parent helps to maintain necessary emotional bonds with mom or dad, while moving forward and into the future.

Healthy grieving isn’t about forgetting; it’s about remembering. The Traditions Program helps kids maintain a healthy connection with a parent who died. Families get a chance to connect and talk about their loved one, helping them deal with grief and move forward.

“The purpose of our Traditions Program is to help families to continue the happy memories that they celebrated with their parent,” said Madison Stewart, Program Director at Family Lives On. “The child chooses the tradition, whether that be going to a sports game, holiday baking, holiday shopping, or a day at the beach … Traditions get lost in everyday life and if we didn’t have someone to remind us to celebrate the happy memories, that may not happen.”

Due to present COVID-19 restrictions, seating will be limited to 120 attendees.

“We must continue to serve our Program Families,” said Minette Lubker, Executive Director at Family Lives On. “We are dedicated to opening enrollment again in 2021!”
