National Publication Lauds Chester County Public Safety Training Campus in Coatesville
The Chester County Public Safety Training Campus in Coatesville is a four-acre complex that creates dynamic and realistic training environments for first responders, according to a report from Firehouse magazine.
The campus, which received a Training Facilities Silver Award in the magazine’s 2019 Station Design Awards, is jointly used by fire, EMS, and police personnel.
To help with training, they use the MILES system that includes blank gun cartridges and sensors. This allows responders to experience various dangerous situations in a controlled environment, such as hostage, active shooter, and mass casualty scenarios.
The campus consists of the burn building, the five-story drill tower, and a 33,500-square-foot indoor facility that features classrooms, simulation labs, offices, firing ranges, defensive tactics rooms, and break rooms.
The burn building has class “A” burn rooms. In addition to the fire department, these are used by police for search and entry training. Meanwhile, the drill tower is designed for fire, police, and EMS personnel to practice search and rescue, as well as advanced ropework and rappelling capabilities.
Furthermore, the indoor facility offers an environment where all first responders can train in both academic and practicum scenarios.
