Former Nurse From Coatesville Continues to Donate Blood at 100 Years Old

Blanche McKee has been donating blood for 75 years and has no plans of stopping.

100-year-old retired nurse Blanche McKee continues to donate blood to the American Red Cross, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

McKee is originally from Iowa and later moved to Pennsylvania, where she worked as a medical assistant at an OB-GYN practice for many years. Mckee first began donating blood as a nursing student, and has continued to do so for over 75 years.

After moving to Freedom Village at Brandywine, a retirement community in Coatesville, McKee partnered with the American Red Cross to start a blood drive there.

The American Red Cross provides a host of medical services across the world, including disaster relief, global medical aid, veteran support, and medical training, in addition to their blood donation services. Blood donation ensures that trauma victims, surgery patients, and cancer patients can all receive the care they need through blood transfusions.

The American Red Cross has been in operation since 1881 and continues to provide life-saving medical care, particularly through their invaluable blood services.

As Mckee stated, “You’re never too old to donate blood. You can donate blood forever.”
