Some creative Havertown residents are taking Burning Man out of the Nevada desert and bring him into town, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.
“Havertown Backyard Burning Man,” is a week of community creative events, starting Saturday and running through Aug. 30.
The actual Burning Man was cancelled in April so Karen Vitale reached out to a friend about doing a local version.
“I’ve never been, but I know the art that came out of it is kind of amazing, so I said ‘would you be interested in doing something locally’ just to lift people’s spirits and bond the community,” Vitale said.
The Havertown event will be about self-expression, self-reliance, creativity and connection to the community.
Residents are encouraged to create lawn or yard art, or decorate their cars.
A spiral of painted rocks will appear at a local park and will grow larger as people add their own stones to it.
The community’s invited to camp out in their back yards all on the same night.
The finale is a self-guided Town Tour on Aug. 30 by car or foot to check out what’s been created during the week.
