Kennett Square native and Unionville High School graduate Adrienne Underwood is the Columbus (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer’s new reporter focused on long-term coronavirus recovery in the city of almost 200,000 people.

Underwood joined the Ledger-Enquirer’s newsroom in June, thanks to its partnership with the Report for America Foundation and the Local News and Information Fund at the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley.

Along with another reporter, Underwood will cover the region’s recovery over the next year from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Along with photojournalist Madeleine Cook,” Underwood said, “I’m here to report on what recovery looks like for the communities, healthcare systems, schools, businesses, and more in Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley.”

Prior to her work with the Ledger-Enquirer, Underwood worked at the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate. She graduated from Tulane University in 2018 with a degree in political science and English.

In her new role, she plans to take a solutions-based approach to reporting, “meaning that we want to write about how our community is finding ways to cope and succeed amid the pandemic, in addition to its struggles.”
