Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center is embarking on a $500,000 campaign to sustain its operations until it can open again.

As a performing arts venue, Uptown! is likely to be facing an extended disruption to its operations. With 72 percent of its annual budget coming from ticket sales and space rentals, the nonprofit is confronting a financial challenge.

Its $500,000 campaign to “Raise Up! the Curtain” is ambitious, yet attainable, but only if the community pitches in. Through early support from its Board of Directors and other constituents, Uptown! has raised $250,000 toward its goal.

An investment in Uptown! will ensure that its curtains will not only open again to inspire audiences but also bring the community together once again.

Uptown! burst onto the Chester County scene in 2016, creating a home for world-class performing arts. In its three short years, Uptown! has served as a community hub, a gathering place, and as an economic engine for restaurants and stores in downtown West Chester.  Today, however, Uptown! is shuttered and in search of ways to emerge from the closure stronger and more vibrant than ever.

In its first three years, Uptown! sold more than 100,000 tickets to more than 500 live-performance events.

Uptown! is not only entertainment; it is education. Its West Chester Studio for the Performing Arts engages hundreds of local children (and adults) in classes taught by theater professionals.
