Small businesses in Chester County that are struggling to survive amidst the pandemic are thanking the community for not giving up on them during the shutdown, writes Jen Samuel for the Daily Local News.

“We are grateful for the support of the Kennett Square community during this challenging time,” said Sandra Morris, co-owner of Portabellos of Kennett Square.

Portabellos is one of many local restaurants that were able to add outdoor dining to takeout offerings over the weekend, after Chester County moved from its restrictive red phase to a more relaxed yellow phase.

“We are hopeful that there will be planned street closures to allow restaurants more seating and give everyone an opportunity to dine and shop and experience the charm of Kennett Square,” said Morris.

Iszel Glover, of Primo Hoagie in Toughkenamon, said that his business lost revenue in March and April, but now it is thriving.

“I am extremely proud of the community,” said Glover. “I think that they have realized, my employees, who are a lot of kids, young adults, are essential workers, and people have been tipping very generously.”
