After Two National Titles and Nine Final Fours, Hall of Fame Coach from West Chester to Retire

Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Ann “Muffet” McGraw is retiring after leading the Fighting Irish for 33 years.

Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Ann “Muffet” McGraw, who grew up in West Chester and graduated from Saint Agnes School in 1969 and Bishop Shanahan High School in 1973, is retiring after leading the Fighting Irish for 33 years, writes Leah Asmelash for CNN.

“I am grateful to have worked with the best assistant coaches in the business, and I have been blessed to coach so many phenomenal women,” said McGraw. “To the best fans in the country, it was my honor and privilege to play for you.”

McGraw led Notre Dame to a pair of national championships and nine Final Fours. Between her tenure with the Irish and five seasons coaching at Lehigh, she amassed a career record of 936-292.

She was the 13th female coach to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

“Muffet is a pioneer, a trailblazer, a fierce competitor, a champion, a leader, and an advocate for women’s empowerment and equality,” said Ruth Riley, a retired WNBA player who played under McGraw.
