First responders and law enforcement surprised Gabrielle Baumler, a 19-year-old cancer survivor, with a mini-parade after she returned home from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The Coatesville High School graduate had been fighting brain cancer for the last couple of years. During that time, she went through numerous rounds of chemotherapy and was constantly feeling sick.

On Tuesday, she was proclaimed cancer-free and was released from the hospital. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, she was not able to invite her friends over to celebrate her amazing news.

But local first responders and law enforcement decided to make her return home memorable. More than two dozen vehicles, some decorated with balloons and banners, drove by her house with horns blaring.

Baumler’s mother, Aime McGeehan, brought her to the lawn to see the mini-parade that was organized just for her. The teen was in tears as she watched the vehicles drive by.

“This was to show her that the community cares for her,” said Curt Martinez, West Caln police chief. “We need good news today, and this young lady needs support.”
