Cleveland Cliffs Steel Mill is supplying steel to help rebuild the permanent I-95 bridge.

Cleveland Cliffs Steel Mill in Coatesville is providing steel to High Steel Structures for the accelerated permanent reconstruction of a bridge section of I-95 in Philadelphia that collapsed in June after a tanker truck crashed into the underpass, writes Harri Leigh for FOX43

Following the incident, crews worked tirelessly to build a temporary road to get traffic flowing again. It took only 12 days to achieve that impressive feat, in part thanks to a disaster declaration signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro a day after the collapse. This allowed PennDOT to fast-track the normal regulations that apply to contracting construction work.

On Aug. 7, Shapiro was joined by Lt. Gov. Austin Davis at an event at High Steel Structures in East Lampeter Township to highlight the accelerated permanent reconstruction. Each of them signed the first finished steel beam, known as a girder. The repairs will require 16 girders and 56 crossbeams.

“When we take off our red jerseys and our blue jerseys and put on our Pennsylvania jerseys, things get done for the good people of Pennsylvania,” said Lt. Gov. Davis.

A completion date for the permanent bridge has not yet been released.
