With a roaring round of applause, the staff at Chester County Hospital celebrated a monumental win when a woman, who beat COVID-19 after three weeks in the intensive care unit, was discharged, writes George Solis for 6ABC.

“I was thrilled to death to go home, but I had no idea they had all those people lined up and cheering me on,” said Deborah Hocker.

Hocker first fell ill on March 29. Her symptoms got so bad that she had to be put on a ventilator for more than a week during her stay in the hospital. This makes her the first patient on a ventilator who has been able to go home.

“It was just really great to see,” said Jackie Sharp, an ICU nurse who treated Hocker.

During her three weeks in the ICU, Hocker was separated from her husband, John. He was quick to commend the hospital’s staff for helping him through this hard period. Deborah also had nothing but words of praise for them.

“I give them a lot of credit, because they do put their lives on the line every day,” she said.
