Kate Kircher, a South Coventry resident and lifelong seamstress, is doing her part during the coronavirus crisis by sewing much-needed masks for healthcare workers, writes Evan Brandt for the Daily Local News.
Kircher has several medical professionals in her family, including her daughter Laura Kane who is a local nurse. Therefore, she was deeply aware of the need for more masks to help protect against the spread of the virus.
The 73-year-old seamstress also put her husband, Bud, to work, as he’s doing the patterns while she washes all the material and puts it all together.
In addition to realizing the need for more masks, Kircher was inspired by all the stories of people trying to help in any way they can.
“This crisis has brought a lot of good things out in people,” she said. “Of course, I hate that people are suffering, but this is a good lesson for us all to learn — we have to pay attention to science.”
By Monday, the pair had already sewn 50 masks for local medical facilities.
