Chair of Chesco’s Democratic Party Weighs In on Presidential Election with Washington Post

As former Vice President Joe Biden won the most delegates on the biggest night of presidential primaries, many Democratic Party stalwarts in Pennsylvania “heaved a sigh of relief,” including Dick Bingham, the chair of Chester County’s Democratic Party, writes Marc Levy for The Washington Post.

Before Super Tuesday, there were worries that Biden’s campaign might not survive the crowded primary fray. However, after several candidates bowed out, Biden ended up coming out on top.

In Pennsylvania, polls generally favor Biden over Bernie Sanders. That is one of the reasons why some in the state’s Democratic Party are worried that a Sanders candidacy could harm other down-ticket candidates in closely divided legislative and congressional districts.

“I do think that the down-ballots would be hampered by a Sanders candidacy,” said Bingham. “I think, on balance, Pennsylvania tends to be pretty moderate. There’s not a lot of indication that there’s a strong preference for those who lean more to the left.”
