All non-essential businesses in West Chester are being urged to close for two weeks as an effort to limit the spread of coronavirus, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The urgent message was shared by State Rep. Carolyn Comitta and Mayor Dianne Herrin over the weekend. It follows a directive from Gov. Tom Wolf in which he recommended discontinuing non-essential businesses in Chester County after two presumptive cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the county.

The missive was also signed by Greater West Chester Chamber President and CEO Mark Yoder, Business Improvement District Executive Director Malcolm Johnstone, and Borough Council President Michael Galey.

“We are writing to urge you to follow this directive for the safety of our community,” reads the missive.

If the spread of the virus is not stopped now, “businesses will experience much more substantial, long-term impacts,” while patient numbers will overload the “hospital system and healthcare workers.”
