After two successful years playing for the University of Oregon, Avon Grove High School graduate Maggie Balint is ready to step into the circle with the San Diego State softball team, writes Amber Salas for The Daily Aztec.

Balint, a pitcher, announced in May on Instagram that she would be transferring to SDSU for her final two years of eligibility.

Aztecs coach Kathy Van Wyk is happy to have Balint on the team, especially since she brings an illustrious resume with her. She was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Freshman of the Year finalist and a first-team All-Pac-12 selection.

“What impresses me the most about Maggie is how independent she is, and how hard a worker she is,” Van Wyk said. “Along with that, she’s extremely competitive.”

“I’ve had a lot of experience,” the West Grove native said. I’ve played in (Oklahoma City) in the World Series. I’ve played in Super Regionals in front of 3,000 fans. I bring an attitude of ‘we’re here to win.’”
