Anna Novelli, an administrative assistant with the Malvern Police Department, is retiring after more than three decades of serving the public, writes Chris O’Connell for FOX 29.
“I’m going to miss the guys,” said Novelli, 81.
Mrs. Malvern, as she is affectionately called, is receiving a fitting sendoff from the entire borough.
Still, the decision to leave was not an easy one for the public servant.
“I’m like ‘Mom, you got to retire. You are 81. Come on, have some fun,’” said Beth Wheeler, Novelli’s daughter. “She’s just like ‘I love it here so much.’”
Novelli, a lifelong Malvern resident, started in her position in 1985. Since then, she has worked for six police chiefs and has become a mother figure in the department.
“Our officers sat many times with family dinners at her house,” said Malvern Police Chief Louis Marcelli. “Years ago, before computers, she would come in and – typewriters were needed if an arrest was made – she would be here actually typing it out for the guys.”
Now that she will finally have more free time, Novelli is looking forward to being able to sleep in and take up a hobby.
