Donations Help to Instill Values, Skills That Prepare Chester County Boy Scouts to Be Future Leaders

By

After the Boy Scouts of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, the national organization headquartered in Irving, Texas is unsure of how long the financial restructuring will take.

One thing, though, is certain: that Scouting will continue throughout the process.

Local councils – which provide programming, financial, facility, and administrative support to Scouting units in their communities – are not part of the bankruptcy filings. They, including the Chester County Council, are legally separate, distinct, and financially independent from the national organization.

Therefore, there is absolutely no reason to stop supporting Scouting. The public’s continued support is instrumental in empowering young people to succeed now and throughout their lives. Financial contributions help to create unparalleled experiences for youth, experiences that instill the values and skills that prepare Scouts to be the future leaders of our communities and our nation.

“While you may not always see or hear of the direct impact you’ve made, it is undeniable, and it lasts a lifetime,” said Jeff Spencer, the Scout Executive/CEO of the Chester County Council.

The Chester County Council is getting ready to build the Oscar Lasko Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC), which will offer not only Scouts but the entire community-at-large a first-class facility on Route 30 in Exton. Donations are still needed to get the project across the finish line.

“The values, confidence, and team-building experience that a young person gains through his or her involvement in Scouting will influence every aspect of their personal and professional life,” said former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil, whose name will be on the Leadership Center that will comprise the PARC’s second floor. “That’s why Scouting has played — and will continue to play — such an important role in keeping our communities strong. The Council’s new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus will be a tremendous asset in supporting the needs and interests of today’s youth as they train their hearts, minds, and habits to become the leaders we need for tomorrow.”

Spencer thanked the Chester County Council’s constituents for their support of the Council’s mission and reiterated that their donations can only be used for their designated purpose.

“Through your engagement and dedication to Scouting, the Chester County Council will continue to bring adventures, values, and lifelong benefits to youth and our communities for generations to come,” he said.
