On Thursday, Apr. 25, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) presented one of its highest honors, the Service to Youth Award, to Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) at their annual volunteer recognition event, the Breakfast of Champions, at the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester.

The YMCA’s Service to Youth Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose dedication and effort have made a significant impact on the lives of children in the community.

Over the years, the CCIU has partnered closely with the YMCA on numerous initiatives benefiting area children and families. This includes collaborating on childcare, the Early Learning Resource Center, the before and after school enrichment programs, providing early intervention services, as well as offering professional training and development opportunities for educators.

Bertram L. Lawson, President and CEO of the YGBW, presented the Service to Youth Award to Sam Ewing, Director of Student Services at the CCIU.

“I am truly honored to accept the YMCA of Greater Brandywine’s Service to Youth Award on behalf of the Chester County Intermediate Unit,” said Ewing. “Our mission has always been to provide exceptional educational services and support to enrich the lives of students throughout Chester County. This would not be possible without our valued partnership with the YMCA. Together, we have collaborated on initiatives like early childhood education, after-school programs, and professional development opportunities that directly benefit our community’s children and youth. This award belongs to all the dedicated CCIU staff who pour their hearts into empowering the next generation each day. We are grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing our important work alongside the YMCA for many years to come.”

The Chester County Intermediate Unit is an educational service agency that exists to provide quality, cost-effective services to the community and its residents. The Chester County Intermediate Unit administers instructional, enrichment, and administrative programs and services to Chester County’s 12 public school districts and over 45 private and parochial schools in the county.

These programs include instructional, remedial, and enrichment services for regular and special education students. Other IU services support teachers, school administrators, and school directors. The diversity of CCIU programs enables IU staff to interact with school district personnel at all levels and to maintain a cohesive educational network throughout Chester County.
