For the 20th year in a row, West Chester University students have held a festive holiday party with gifts for children in foster care, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

“The Giving Tree” event this year benefited 28 kids from Children’s Home of York.

To make this Christmas brighter for the young visitors, 120 students made contributions to ensure each got a special present. They also decorated the student lounge in Killinger Hall, where the children were could enjoy arts, crafts, and special visits from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves.

“It’s pretty good to see the look on kids’ faces when Santa gives them a gift,” said Allison Short, a junior studying social work.

Justin Brown, a director with Residence Life and Housing Services, has been organizing the benefit for the last seven years and was grateful for the help given by the community, university staff, and students.

“We appreciate all the donations,” said Brown. “The West Chester Community really showed up this year and poured out their hearts.”

He said that the event also benefited the students by providing them with “the best living experience.”
